Acrylic on Canvas, 30" wide X 24" tall
Status: Sold

Commission piece. I hesitated posting this one, because it's a recreation of one I've already done, so nothing new! But comparing this one with my earlier effort, version II does seem brighter. I remember staring at it and going, "But it looks just like the other one! Agh! Have I learned nothing?" (on the other hand, it's kinda reassuring to know you *can* recreate things - though heaven help me if I go all Warhol on this one for years, cranking out Kits Neighborhoods like so many soup can lithographs).

Thing is, I guess it's the subtle improvements that help. I've learned a bit more about how to make colors screamingly bright. In this one, the bushes are yellow because the customer wanted more autumn shades in the picture. I guess that gives it more of an every-crayon-in-the-box feel. Otherwise, it's the same crowded, bright houses and slopy bridges. Movement and instability - characteristic of Kits.

Thank you! You're too kind. :) (:) x2)
What did you learn about making color more bright? I am very curious.

This is wondrously vibrant.

The work on the colours is thoroughly impressive! I really like it a ton. Good (re)work!
As always - amazingly lyrical, stunningly vibrant and quaintly charming. Like all of your pieces they make you cheery - like starting the day with a hardy breakfast, good company and a nice view.
keep up the good work!

Awesome work there lady! I love the movement and the brightness of the colours. The repetition of the house shapes gives it solidity in an otherwise very wonky neighborhood! Fun, happy and cheerful ppl must live here!
Ooh, I can't tell if I like this one better or not. The brightness of the colours is definitely nicer... in fact, yes, it's definitely better! But I love them both. :D

Let's see... I try to use good quality high-pigment paint when it counts, and I recently discovered the joy of using neon fabric paint as an acrylic medium: red Liquitex + cheap neon red or neon yellow as a thinner = really bright red! One of these days, I'll try glow-in-the-dark paint.
