16" tall X 20" wide.
Acrylic on canvas.

The Shuswap Lake view one is the real commission piece. And, as mentioned in my journal, I’m giving them this one as well as a surprise.

This one turned out so much better than the lake one, in my opinion. When the customers talked about the cabin their father built in Shuswap, there was a lot of love there. They mentioned how their family was "proud to have built it from scratch over 40 years ago" and that it had a lot of memories of family and friends. "It is something special that will always be a part of the family legacy," they said. And they wrote about how they loved to sit on the deck for a drink at 5pm and watch the sun shine on the opposite shore. They mentioned the painting would probably hang in a bright room with a décor that has natural wood trim, soft golds and greens, and a very comfortable informal setting.

So with that in mind, this one came together really easily. The cabin has a lot of character - you can almost see a face there. I wanted to try bringing that out, making it smile. Here is the source photo I used.

I also like it because of the human elements you see - the path, the chairs on the deck, and that bright little pinwheel on the stump.

Anyway, I think this one will be my saving grace from the other one, because they aren’t expecting it. Hopefully it exceeds their expectations.

I like both, purely because I love landscape type images, so I'm a fan of the lake painting, but this one has a more 'lived in' feel to it. The human touch I guess.

Anyway, both awesome. :)

Thanks again! Yes, this one is more my favorite. I think I just had a better vision of how it was going to turn out.

I like this one more the lake one too. There seems to be an energy in your composition on this one. Like the energy we seem to have during summer vacation...both lazy and active in a very enjoyable way. I'm not sure if this makes much sense. ( I think maybe the lake painting is the calming part of vacation. ) This is the fun part :-)

Have you ever thought of illustrating a children's book. I could just see your work adding life to someone's story.

Thanks, Lisa. Hopefully they'll appreciate the matched set!

Re. the children's book - & thanks for saying that - my mom always suggested it, too, because I have an English degree. Maybe one day I'll write one and illustrate one - just need to come up with a story first! :)

The two paintings make a great pairing. The fun and peace of summer vacation homes. They make a strong pair.

And may the muses be with you

I just love your style of painting- it sorta reminds me of Van Gogh, mixed with Gauguin, but also with a very personal touch that is simply beautiful

Thanks so much. This painting was so easy compared to the other one!
