Vancouver Core by Laurazee Vancouver Core by Laurazee
Acrylic on Canvas, 36" wide x 30" tall.
Status: Sold

This is the Lonsdale Quay/Seabus View of Vancouver based (very liberally) on Syberpat's Vancity Core shot. The classic Vancouver elements are the sails of Canada Place as well as the Sears (Harbor Center) tower on the left. I took a lot of liberties with the overall architecture as well as with the colors, which I wanted to be crayon-bright for some reason.

Sad story on this one and a good lesson with acrylics: I was *almost done* back in early Dec. and was just sanding down some of those annoying acrylic bumps that develop. I decided I would rinse the dusty residue off faster in the sink: who knew the acrylic would peel off in SHEETS like that?

So this is actually the second version of the same painting since I accidentally and entirely rinsed off version #1, which I suspect was a cosmic statement that it just wasn't good enough or something. Anyway, here it is, repainted, recolored, and now I can go on to the next, whatever that is.

Vancouver Core by *Laurazee is a richly colored, wobbly bit of fun. It has an almost animated quality about it -- in the sense that you expect it to start moving. ( Suggested by Sventine and Featured by zeruch )

Congratz on the DD! This is really an excellent view and SO MUCH MORE INTERESTING than the photo you used as a reference. I don't know how the photog could have made their photo more flat, bland and essentially anonymous. (Oddly I noticed that on both the pages I've noticed that you used their photo as a ref - they didn't even comment about it! I'd be soooo honoured!) I love your use of colour and fractalline elements.

I have noticed tho that my photos of Vancouver generally do not do the reality any justice. Could be the GREY! LOL! :D

After travelling and living in much brighter places in Asia especially, I had a hard time getting into BC's beauty again since it is often so dark and gloomy and so NORTHERN!!! LOL! I remember being on Wreck some decades ago while I was visiting from my home in Japan and just being so shocked that our colours are so washed out, literally and figuratively speaking! hehe
