I always write about my own goings-on. Are you as bored with it as I am? Here are some dA members that I think are worth a look... Ten for starters, but I'll try to do this more regularly!

Verbatim comment: I bought a print of this. It may be about wishing, but to me, it also epitomizes motherhood. It is a beautiful image and stunning in its simplicity. The way the leaves of the drying-up dandelion curl down and they way they contrast with the hopeful, fluffy seed says it all to me.

Eddie is pretty well known around these parts for his "Yeti Cubist" style as well as his nightmare-themed photomanips, but this one is one of my favorites. When you see works by Picasso and Warhol and Matisse and so on, you don't realize that before they got into the heavy-duty abstraction they were already masters of their craft. This is an earlier offering from Eddie that shows the same. I love the loose lines and kindly expression.

Madbaumer's style is wonderfully distinct. I love the look of his gothic portraiture. He epitomizes the original sense of "gothic style" with his Germanic titles, longish pale faces, and the narrative significance in every drawing (this is probably his most ethereal). Oh, and he has Type O Negative listed as a favorite band, so that's cool, too.

Another guy with a distinctive style. He is also a sculptor, which gives his 2d work a 3d quality. I love what he does with color and his Seussian-Nietzsche themes. The ghoulish green in this one is what works for me - it's like mold and decay. Plus it captures my love/hate thing with CNN.
Fine Art Series -Nude 1 by =LemnosExplorer
The straightforward graphic nature of this one caught my eye: red border, barbed-wire female form. It seems to symbolize the danger of a siren call. Not to mention that the photographer is Greek, so it's almost like... punk Aphrodite.
Jeannie's Diary by *ForgetfulRainn
This is someone who I like a lot personally. Nick's community spirit is wonderful and his enthusiasm, willingness, and inevitable self-deprecation when he experiments with just about any artistic style is quite appealing. Here is one of my favorites from him - I love Jeannie's bemused/uncertain expression. Check out his Antarctica Asylum cartoon.

I am fascinated by decay, things industrial, and fences. If I could have painted this myself, I would have been proud. It is a photograph, though, and as it is, I think it makes a cool Valentine's Day statement. I can't stop looking at it.
The Battle Within: Madness by ~giorjoe
This guy is a real up and comer. I am quite in awe of his style and colors. In fact, I would almost say jealous!

I have some good memories of Alcatraz (as a tourist, not an inmate, of course). This rendition is done by someone who knows the landscape well. I wish I had the patience for this kind of detail on my own buildings.
John the Baptist by *JimmyMcCullough
Another charming San Francisco native who has clearly studied his Picasso. This one is precise and painterly at the same time.
Well, that's ten. There are tons of others, but I'll leave it there.

Consolatory art for distressed hearts
I read a review that highlighted a phrase van Gogh used to describe his own work: "consolatory art for distressed hearts." The phrase takes the slight shame I have in making frivolously pretty paintings and reconciles it with my own enjoyment of making and looking at frivolously pretty paintings.
Here's a link to the review: http://www.lrb.co.uk/v37/n15/julian-barnes/selfie-with-sunflowers
Just as there are writers’ writers, so there are painters’ painters: necessary exemplars, moral guides, embodiers of the art. Often they are quiet artists, who lack a shouty biography, who go about their work with modest pertinacity, believing

Alright, here's my story. In my province, you can only buy alcohol (beer, wine, spirits) at a designated government liquor store. It's an inconvenient legislative hangover from British Columbia's prohibitive past. By the way, you American alcohol consumers have no idea how easy you have it what with all those grocery stores and gas stations and 7-11s that sell beer! Alas, we BC-ers have to plan for Sundays when the one liquor store in our neighborhood is clo
So it goes.
Another scattershot update. Really, is there any other kind of update? Here's a brief overview of my past six months summarized in both emoticons and text.
Happy: I went on a vacation! Portugal's Algarve region for two blissful weeks. It was todo otimo and I will go again. I came back all excited to paint what I saw.
Worried: Had enough commissions and sales to sustain me through May but then everything mysteriously slowed down.
Sad: My Mom died on June 25. Cancer. This is hard. If you've ever been through the death of a parent, you know how it goes. It's a trauma that feels like it happened yesterday and forever ago all at once.
Quick Update and On 'Loving What You Do'
Scattershot update. Seems I got a Daily Deviation since I last logged on. Hey, thanks! It's for one of my favorite recent paintings, too. I love it when my commissions turn out so well. Thank you =ElindielForestStar and ^deshrubber. And thank all of you so much for the comments and favs.
Things are busy and I want to respond to everyone who took the time to comment. I really appreciate it when people comment on my work and I want to take my time to go look at their work in turn because, hey, they seem to have good taste.
Anyway, it may take me a while to get back to you but I WILL get back to you. Thank you in advance for your time and pati
